Decontamination
Smooth paint starts here
Run your hand over the hood after a wash. If it feels like fine sandpaper, that is bonded fallout and overspray sitting in the clear coat, and no amount of washing takes it off. Two tools do the same job. Pick the one that suits how you work.

The Clay Mitt
Wears on your hand
A synthetic rubber surface that shears bonded contaminants off the paint. It fits on your hand, so you cover ground fast.
Reach for it whenYou want one tool for the whole vehicle and you would rather move quickly.
- Wears on your hand for fast coverage
- Easier around badges, mirrors and curves
- Synthetic surface, rinse it and reuse it
- Medium grade, so it needs lube at all times

Best on flat panels
The Clay Towel
Flat, perforated face
Same synthetic surface, same grade, flat format. The perforations trap the grime it lifts instead of holding it against the paint.
Reach for it whenYou are working big flat panels and want the debris pulled up and away from the finish.
- Flat face for hoods, roofs and doors
- Perforations hold what it lifts off the paint
- Synthetic surface, rinse it and reuse it
- Medium grade, so it needs lube at all times

Never heard of us?
A family business, not a brand
Jeremy Stevens started detailing in 1996 and built Shine Supply out of the family garage in 2008. His two sons work alongside him today, and it is still run out of one shop in Ventura, California. It has never been sold to private equity and it never will be.
Still on the fence, or just want to learn more about the products? Call us at 805-535-4332. You will talk to one of our team members, not a robot and not AI, and you will not get an automated email back. Your connection with us is our top priority, always.
You cannot run it dry
What goes with it
A medium grade needs lubrication at all times. Shine Mist, or a thick layer of foam if you are claying during the wash. Dry contact is what puts marring in a finish, not the clay itself.
Shine Mist
The clay lube. Built around grab instead of pure slickness, so the tool cuts instead of skating across the panel.
$12.0016 oz
Smooth Move
Pulls iron out chemically before you ever touch the paint. Less left for the clay to do means less risk of marring.
$18.0016 oz
Hotshot Soap
Decon goes after the wash, never instead of it. Thick foam also doubles as your lube if you clay during the wash.
$12.0016 oz
The Soap Hand
The wash mitt for the step before. Deep pile lifts dirt away from the paint instead of dragging it across.

The traditional way
Still want a clay bar?
Clay bars still work. They are cheaper up front and they conform to curves and badges better than a flat tool. The tradeoff is that a dropped bar goes in the trash.
Purple Clay Bar
Medium grade. For paint that has not been decontaminated in a long time, or that has overspray in it.
$28.00Medium
White Clay Bar
Fine grade. For maintenance on paint that is already in good shape, or on softer finishes.
$28.00Fine

Bundles
If you would rather not piece it together, each of these is built around the full decon workflow in the order it should actually be done.
The Clay Bar Kit
Clay bar and Shine Mist together. Pick your grade at checkout.
$32.00
Paint Decontamination Kit
Chemical decon and mechanical decon in one box instead of buying it piece by piece.
$60.00
The Decon & Seal Kit
A full paint reset in one wash. Wash, pull the iron, decon, then seal it, with no machine and no polishing.
$95.00
How it is done
Four steps, one panel at a time
This is the same process we run in our own detail shop before any polish, sealant or coating goes on a customer car.
Wash and rinse first
Decon goes after the wash, never instead of it. Anything loose still sitting on the paint is grit you are about to drag across the clear coat.
Soak the panel
Spray Shine Mist generously on one section at a time, or re-foam the panel and use the suds as your lube. The surface should stay slick the whole time you are working it.
Straight lines, light pressure
Glide back and forth in straight lines until the paint feels smooth. Let the tool cut. Pushing harder does not speed it up, it just puts marring in the finish.
Rinse it and move on
Wipe the section with a clean microfiber and rinse the mitt or towel so trapped grit does not get dragged back onto the paint. Then do the next panel.

Questions we get
Mitt or towel? What is the actual difference?
Same synthetic surface, same medium grade, same result. The difference is how it sits in your hand.
The mitt wears on your hand, so it is faster and easier to control on curves, bumpers and around badges. The towel is flat and perforated, and those holes trap the grime it lifts instead of holding it against the paint, which makes it the better pick for big flat panels like a hood or a roof.
If you only buy one, most people are happier with the mitt.
Do I really need the clay lube?
Yes. This is the one rule you cannot break. A medium grade on dry paint will marr the finish, and that is a polishing job to fix.
Use Shine Mist, or re-foam the panel during your wash and use a thick layer of suds instead. Either works. Nothing is not an option.
How do I know if my paint even needs it?
Wash the car, then run your hand over the hood with a sandwich bag over it. If it feels gritty or like fine sandpaper, there is bonded contamination in the clear coat.
Most daily drivers need it once or twice a year. A car that sits outside near rail lines, construction or industrial fallout will need it more.
Will this scratch my paint?
Used right, no. Used dry or with too much pressure, any medium grade decon tool can leave light marring, and that is true of every brand including ours.
Keep it lubricated, work in straight lines, rinse often, and let the tool do the cutting. On soft or dark paint, plan to follow decon with a light polish to refine the finish. That is what we do in the shop.
How long do these last?
A long time. The synthetic surface rinses clean, so unlike a clay bar you are not throwing it out when it loads up or when you drop it on the driveway. Wash it out between uses and it holds up over many decon jobs.
Who actually owns Shine Supply?
Jeremy Stevens. He got into detailing in 1996, started Shine Supply out of the family garage in 2008, and it has grown into what it is today. Two of his boys work alongside him, and the rest of the team has been with us a long time.
No private equity, no parent company. Just the family and the people we work with every day.
