Tango Microfiber Polishing Pad
IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO.
The Tango is a dual-layer microfiber polishing pad built by Lake Country exclusively for Shine Supply. It lives right between a microfiber cutting pad and a finishing pad, which makes it the pad to reach for when you're doing enhancement polishing — knocking out swirls and light defects fast without chasing every last imperfection. The microfiber face cuts harder and faster than foam, and the dual-layer construction keeps it alive far longer than a standard single-layer microfiber pad.
- Dual-layer HDO design: A white foam interface layer sits between the backing and the microfiber face to absorb heat and friction — the number one cause of premature pad failure. Less heat in the pad means more consistent performance and a pad that lasts.
- Microfiber cut, clean finish: The special microfiber blend cuts through defects without leaving the heavy haze you get from aggressive microfiber pads, so you spend less time on cleanup passes.
- Built for enhancement polishing: Foam pads are safe but slow to remove defects. The Tango gives you real cutting performance with the control to enhance paint — ideal when you're on the clock but can't compromise results.
- Taller profile for body lines: The extra pad height lets you roll over panels and body lines cleanly without losing bite or burning through.
- Works on all paint types: Pair it with any Shine Supply compound or polish to dial in the right combo for the job in front of you.
- Plan on a second step: The Tango cuts, but it'll leave some marring behind — more so on darker vehicles, softer clears, and when you run a heavier compound. Most jobs need a follow-up polish. Use your eyes to judge how much haze and marring is in the paint before you decide.
- DA polishers only: The Tango is built specifically for dual-action polishers. It's not designed to run on a rotary.
- Sizes: Available in 5″, 6″, and a 3″ 2-pack for spot correction and tight areas.
How to Use
Dual-Action (DA) Polisher
- Center the Tango on your backing plate and press firmly to seat it.
- Prime a new pad with a few drops of compound or polish worked across the face before your first set.
- Apply 3–4 pea-sized dots of product to the pad.
- Spread product at low speed across your work area (roughly 2'x2'), then bring the machine up to speed 4–6.
- Work the section in slow, overlapping passes until the product breaks down and clears.
- Wipe the residue with a clean microfiber towel and inspect under good lighting.
- Follow with a second polishing step to clear any haze or marring (see our favorite combos below).
Detailer Tips
- Light defects, softer clears, newer paint: Run the Tango with Classic Polish for a good cut that doesn't leave much marring behind, then follow with Classic Finish Plus on an HDO Black Foam Pad. This combo is our go-to for soft clear coats and newer vehicles.
- Heavier defects or harder clears: Step up to the Tango with Burnout for more cut. It's more aggressive, so it leaves a little more marring — follow with Classic Polish on an HDO Orange Foam Pad to clean it up.
- Read the paint, not the rulebook: Darker colors and soft clears show marring more — use your own discretion on how much correction the second step needs.
- Swap pads as you work: Change pads throughout the vehicle depending on its size. As a pad loads up with product the fibers mat down and trap debris, and a tired pad leaves more haze. Don't cycle one pad too long.
- Don't let the pad get hot: Excess heat breaks the foam down faster and softens the adhesive — get a pad too hot and it can delaminate and come off completely. Keep your passes controlled and rotate to a cool pad before things heat up.
- Test a small spot first to confirm the Tango gives you the cut you need before committing to the whole panel.
