How to choose the right detail spray

Choosing The Right Detail Spray

Posted on January 22nd by Colby Stevens

INTRODUCTION

Detail sprays are one of the most misunderstood products in car care.

They all look similar on the shelf, they all wipe on and off, and they all make the paint look good; but they’re not designed to do the same job.

If you’ve ever looked at the Shine Supply detail spray lineup and felt unsure which one to choose, you’re not alone.

Each Shine Supply detail spray is designed for a specific purpose. Some add protection, some maintain it, some lightly clean, and some intentionally do nothing except perfect the finish. When you understand what each one is meant to do, choosing the right spray becomes simple.

This guide is designed to walk you through what each detail spray does, when to use it, and when not to, so you can confidently choose the right product for your vehicle without guessing.

WHAT DETAIL SPRAY SHOULD I BUY?

Choosing the right detail spray has nothing to do with skill level. All Shine Supply detail sprays are extremely user friendly.

What actually matters is answering two simple questions:

  1. What type of protection is on your vehicle?

    • Wax or sealant

    • Ceramic coating

    • Matte, satin, PPF, or vinyl

  2. What do you want the spray to do right now?

    • Add or boost protection

    • Lightly clean the surface

    • Perfect the finish without adding anything

Once you answer those two questions, the correct detail spray becomes clear.

Below is a breakdown of each Shine Supply detail spray, what role it plays, and the situations it’s designed for.

RIDE SHINE - QUICK WAX DETAILER

Ride Shine is a wax-based detail spray designed to maintain vehicles protected with traditional waxes or sealants or add a ight layer of wax on a non-protected vehicle.

What Ride Shine does

  • Enhances gloss and depth

  • Reinforces existing wax or sealant protection

  • Works on paint, glass, wheels, and chrome.
  • Adds a light layer of caranuba to your paint
  • Leaves paint slick with a nice glow

  • Extremely forgiving and easy to use

What Ride Shine does not do

  • It does not maintain ceramic coatings

  • It does not deliver ceramic-style water behavior

When Ride Shine makes sense

Ride Shine is the right choice when your vehicle is:

  • Protected with wax or a traditional sealant

  • A daily driver or weekend vehicle

  • Has no protection at all and needs a quick wax

Ride Shine is ideal if you want a simple, reliable product that refreshes gloss and protection without overthinking the process.

PUNCH IT - CERAMIC DETAILER

Punch It is a ceramic-based detail spray designed to maintain and enhance ceramic coatings, or to provide light standalone ceramic protection.

What Punch It does

  • Boosts water beading and hydrophobic behavior

  • Works on paint, glass, wheels, and chrome.
  • Restores slickness to ceramic-coated surfaces

  • Adds SiO₂-based ceramic protection

  • Can be used as a drying aid, final wipe, or spray-on rinse-off

What Punch It does not do

  • It does not clean dirt or dust

  • It does not contain waxes or gloss fillers

  • It does not replace a ceramic coating

When Punch It makes sense

Punch It is the right choice when:

  • Your vehicle is ceramic coated

  • You want to maintain or restore coating performance

  • You’re focused on water behavior and slickness

  • You want to add qucik "ceramic-like" protection to your vehicle

Punch It is designed to work with ceramic coatings, not over them. Used correctly, it helps coatings perform the way they’re supposed to.

Ignition – High speed detailer

Ignition bridges the gap between a detail spray and a waterless wash. It’s designed for light cleaning while adding ceramic protection.

What Ignition does

  • Safely removes light dust and light grime

  • Adds light ceramic-based protection

  • Works on paint, glass, wheels, and chrome

  • Ideal for in-between washes

What Ignition does not do

  • It is not a replacement for a full wash

  • It is not intended for dirty vehicles

  • Does not replace a ceramic coating

When Ignition makes sense

Ignition is ideal when:

  • The vehicle has light dust or fingerprints

  • You want to clean and protect in one step

  • The car is garage-kept, a show car, or lightly driven

  • Your vehicle is ceramic coated

If the vehicle is truly dirty, a proper wash is always the safer option. Ignition shines when the surface only needs light cleanup and acts as a light ceramic booster detail spray.

Throttle – PURe detail spray

Throttle is intentionally different from every other detail spray in the lineup.

It adds zero protection by design.

What Throttle does

  • Removes light residue, fingerprints, and streaks

  • Reduces static and dust attraction

  • Leaves a crisp, clean finish

  • Perfects the surface without altering it

What Throttle does not do

  • It does not add wax

  • It does not add ceramic protection

  • It does not change gloss or slickness

When Throttle makes sense

Throttle is the right choice when:

  • Your vehicle is ceramic coated and you don’t want to mask it

  • You’re working with matte or satin finishes

  • You want a final wipe-down with no additives

  • You’re correcting streaks from other products

Because Throttle contains no waxes, polymers, or ceramic additives, it will not change the appearance of matte or satin finishes. This makes it the safest option when preserving the original look is critical.

Quick Reference Guide

If you just want the short answer:

  • Waxed or sealed vehicle → Ride Shine

  • Ceramic-coated, want performance → Punch It

  • Ceramic-coated, light dust or fingerprints → Ignition

  • Final wipe, no added protection → Throttle

  • Matte or satin finishes → Throttle

Final Thoughts

Detail sprays aren’t meant to do the same job — and that’s intentional.

Each Shine Supply detail spray exists to solve a specific problem, whether that’s maintaining wax, boosting ceramic performance, lightly cleaning a surface, or simply perfecting the finish without adding anything at all.

When you match the product to your vehicle’s protection and your goal for that moment, everything becomes easier — better results, fewer issues, and no guesswork.

If you ever feel unsure about which spray to grab, come back to this question:

“What do I want this product to do right now?”

Once you answer that, the right choice is already made.
